What is The Young Children’s School?
YCS is a community outreach ministry of the Oak Grove UMC established in 1959. Our mission is to offer a rich and loving half-day early childhood program that focuses on socialization skills, discovery play-based learning, and openness to a child-centric emergent curriculum. Our program includes Parent’s Morning Out for ages 12 months through 2’s and Preschool for 3’s, 4’s & 5’s. The Oak Grove Young Children’s School's primary goal is to provide a nurturing, encouraging, and supportive atmosphere wherein children can grow developmentally appropriate skills at their own pace.
Who May Attend YCS?
Children who are 12 months old (by September 1st of each year) through Pre-K age may attend. We also offer a five day 5’s class for children who need an extra year before entering the high ratio institutional rigors of a Kindergarten classroom
When are we in Session?
The Young Children’s School year runs from the third week of August through the third week of May and follows the DeKalb County School System’s holiday calendar. We also offer five weeks of Summer camp in June and July. The first day of school for the 2021-22 school year is Monday, August 16th. The last day of school for 2021-22 is May 20th.
