Oak Grove Young Children's School

We are a community, faith based half-day preschool program...

The Oak Grove Young Children’s School (YCS) provides a warm family-centered experience based on respect for the individuality of each child, respect for family styles and structures, and support of individual parenting styles. Together, the director, administrative team, and teaching staff partner with parents to fully understand each child to prepare them socially, emotionally, and academically for the challenges of Kindergarten and beyond.

What is The Young Children’s School?

YCS is a community outreach ministry of the Oak Grove UMC established in 1959. Our mission is to offer a rich and loving half-day early childhood program that focuses on socialization skills, discovery play-based learning, and openness to a child-centric emergent curriculum. Our program includes Parent’s Morning Out for ages 12 months through 2’s and Preschool for 3’s, 4’s & 5’s. The Oak Grove Young Children’s School's primary goal is to provide a nurturing, encouraging, and supportive atmosphere wherein children can grow developmentally appropriate skills at their own pace.

Who May Attend YCS?

Children who are 12 months old (by September 1st of each year) through Pre-K age may attend. We also offer a five day 5’s class for children who need an extra year before entering the high ratio institutional rigors of a Kindergarten classroom

When are we in Session?

The Young children’s year runs from the third week in August to the third week in May and follows the Dekalb County School System’s holiday calendar. We also offer a series of summer camps in June and July.

Why Consider YCS For Your Family?

Since 1959 the Oak Grove Young Children’s School has kept pace with early childhood standards, providing a setting where young children can grow in social skills, knowledge, basic Christian values, character, wisdom, self-awareness, and understanding of the world they experience. The ongoing pursuit of continuing education for the Director and teaching staff assures that our program is rich with innovative and tried and true, developmentally appropriate early childhood practices.
