Together, the director, administrative team, and teaching staff partner with parents to more fully understand each child to prepare them socially, emotionally and academically for the challenges of Kindergarten and beyond.
What is The Young Children’s School?
YCS is a community outreach ministry of the Oak Grove UMC established in 1959. Our mission is to offer a rich and loving half-day early childhood program which focuses on socialization skills, discovery play based learning, and openness to child-centric emergent curriculum. Our program includes Parent’s Morning Out for ages 12 months through 2’s and Preschool for 3’s, 4’s & 5’s. The primary goal of The Oak Grove Young Children’s School is to provide a nurturing, encouraging and supportive atmosphere wherein children can grow developmentally appropriate skills at their own pace.
Who May Attend YCS?
Children who are 12 months old (by September 1st of each year) through Pre-K age may attend. We also offer a 5 day 5’s class for children who need an extra year before entering the high ratio institutional rigors of a Kindergarten classroom
When are we in Session?
The Young Children’s School year typically runs from the third week of August through the third week of May and follows the DeKalb County School System’s holiday calendar. We also offer four to five weeks of Summer camp in June and July.
Why Consider YCS For Your Family?
Since 1959 the Oak Grove Young Children’s School has kept pace with early childhood standards, providing a setting where young children can grow in social skills, knowledge, basic Christian values, character, wisdom, self awareness and understanding of the world they experience. Ongoing pursuit of continuing education for Director and teaching staff assures that our program is rich with innovative, as well as tried and true, developmentally appropriate early childhood practices. What Parents Say About YCS
We moved to Atlanta from Colorado and are so glad we found YCS. My kids have thrived here-- they love going to school and are brimming with confidence when they get in the car in the afternoon. I have also found a wonderful community of parents that are open and welcoming. I tell people: YCS is 'normal' preschool done exceptionally well!
We feel at home at OGYCS. We have 4 children so we have been at the school for 6 years. Two of our children have graduated, one started this year, and our baby will start in another year. The love our children receive from every member of the staff is unmatched. Each of our children have their own unique personalities and they have all flourished at OGYCS. We will forever be grateful to the teachers and staff for helping us to raise loving, kind children.
We have had the most wonderful experience at YCS. All teacher and staff greet my child with a warm greeting and are enthusiastic to see him each day. As a former teacher, I appreciate seeing the teacher's lesson plans so I can follow-up at home with what he is learning at school. My child's teachers are two of the most kind, perceptive and engaging adults to teach Pre-Schoolers. I am so thankful to know my child is loving learning while in such a special place!
We love everything about YCS. The teachers and administrators are amazing. You can feel the love when you walk in the door. Everyone greets you with a smile. And most importantly, the kids look like they love their school. As first time preschool parents, we wanted to make sure we put our son in the best school possible. We knew we made the right decision the second we walked in the door on the first day. We are blessed to call YCS home!
